Head of Lighting

Be part of the backstage team on the seven Olivier award winning production of the musical CABARET in London’s West End, directed by Rebecca Frecknall and designed by Tom Scutt as we go into our sixth year.

CABARET HEAD OF LIGHTING

Start Date: September 2026.  Minimum contract length of 52 weeks.

Job Specification

  • Operate the lighting console (ETC Eos) for each performance, ensuring cues are run accurately and consistently to the original lighting design
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the Zactrack automated tracking system, including calibration and fault-finding
  • Manage daily pre-show checks and general maintenance of all lighting equipment
  • Liaise with the Associate Designer and Associate Director to maintain design integrity
  • Make minor programming adjustments as required, within agreed parameters of the lighting / associate lighting designer. Wider programming may be required during cast changes but this is to be agreed with the team on a rolling basis.
  • Update and maintain accurate cue sheets, plots, and paperwork
  • Oversee replacement, repair, and stock control of lamps, gel, and consumables as required
  • Manage cast changes (three per year), understudy rehearsals, and put-ins from a lighting perspective
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, including rigging and working at height
  • Attend production and department head meetings
  • Manage a Deputy HOD and jointly with Head of Automation, a Tech Swing.
  • Onboard and train new lighting crew members / deps etc

Person Specification

  • Significant experience as a Head or Deputy Head of Department in West End or large-scale touring productions
  • Strong working knowledge of ETC Eos consoles
  • Experience with Zactrack or similar automated tracking/follow systems. Training on Zactrack will be provided.
  • Familiarity with Glasson or comparable lighting power/data distribution systems
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure during live performance

Contract Type: SOLT/BECTU

Salary - £1,135.09 per week as a buy-out (£59,024 per year) based on BECTU Grade 1 minimum for 40 hours plus 6 hours of overtime and 6 bank holidays.
